The Carter & Son Forge story began in July of 2014 just after the birth of my son. I was a 5 year veteran of the Dallas Police Department and began blacksmithing as a means of coping with stress. I had also been a hobby woodworker for many years prior, and blacksmithing also served as a means to make traditional woodworking tools that are no longer in mass production. I built a red brick forge in the backyard, bought a cheap anvil, and started making hardware and tools out of wrought iron and mild steel. In October of that year I was commissioned by another officer to make two knives for his kids as gifts. He was impressed by my craftsmanship, and the transaction inspired me to begin selling my work. The work grew exponentially, and I found myself burning through vacation time at work to keep up with orders at home. In September of 2015, I was blessed with an opportunity to move closer to my family, quit the department, and begin working from home full time. We now live a homestead lifestyle nestled in the Big Thicket of Southeast Texas, and we are here and waiting to make a hand forged knife, axe, or tool to serve you for a lifetime.
